Here is how it works
• How to number the floor plan of your new home.
This can be as simple as numbering each room or area ie; Basement #1, Garage #2, Entry Hall #3, Living Room #4, etc. or…as complex as numbering each closet with a number as well, and each cabinet and shelf in your kitchen.
Should you decide to go with the more complex method, it would work like this: if your Kitchen number is 9, each cabinet would take on a “precision placement number” ie; 9-1, 9-2, 9-3, etc. Starting on the top shelf, your system now moves to alpha-numeric, ie; 9-1A, 9-1B, 9-1C, etc. You would then tag your boxes with the appropriate cabinet and or, shelf number where you would like your goods unpacked. Your JBHome Configuration Specialist will assist you in determining what works best for you and help you to simplify the process.
• How to label your furniture, boxes and miscellaneous.
1.) For furniture… you will be using the number of the room or area, followed by a “precision placement number”, ie; 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, etc. The -1, -2, -3, tells your movers approximately where you want the furniture to be positioned in the room. Moving the piece a couple of inches this way or that, can be easily accomplished on your final walk through with the JB Crew Chief.
2.) For boxes or miscellaneous items….just tag them with the number of the room.
3.) Once you know the numbers of your rooms or areas, determine a wall where no major pieces of furniture are to be placed. Make a “Number” placard for that wall that says, “place boxes here”. This way your movers will be more efficient by not having to move boxes out of the way 2 or 3 times.
• How to measure your major pieces of furniture.
1.) The two most important measurements you need are the length, and the width. The height only comes in to play when there are low ceilings involved. So in the case of low ceilings or a house with “dormers”, the height of your furniture is critical.
2.) Rounding your measurements off to the closest inch, will not cause a problem in most cases.
• How to measure the size of each room in your new home where furniture or boxes will be placed.
1.) Make sure to measure each wall exactly. Measure the wall space between closet doors, the entry door, windows and any little jogs or juts. This way, when you are placing the furniture on your floor plan, it will be much easier to know what piece of furniture will fit on which wall or between which windows.
• How to complete the graph and number placards showing where the furniture will placed in your new home and how to get to those rooms.
1.) Number the top portion of the placard with the appropriate room or area number. Lay out each room on the bottom portion of the placard and assign “precision placement numbers” to each major piece shown. See example provided. NOTE: The drawing does not need to be to scale.
2.) “Number Placards” are to be used for closets, garages, the basement, a storage area or, any area where it does not matter where the furniture or items are placed. NOTE: Should you want items in the garage or basement to be precision placed, use a “Graph Placard”.
• Your JB Home Configuration Specialist will also advise you on how to judge if your furniture will fit where you want to place it.
Even more importantly, your specialist will tell you if your furniture can be brought into your home or go down to the basement. Size variances and restrictions such as, corner abutments, or stairway heights might not allow furniture to fit easily. It may not be able to make a turn, or a doorway that it is too small, anything that may need special attention, your JB Home Configuration Specialist will advise you on.
